If you’re under investigation, have a court order, or if you’ve been charged with a crime in the Palestine area, it is essential to remember that you are innocent until proven guilty.
That means intimidation tactics to scare you into taking a plea deal, or pleading guilty to something you did not do, will never work with Jeremy Coe as your lawyer.
He refuses to be intimidated, and will counsel you on the wisest course of action. After your lawyer clearly presents your options, you are ultimately in control to make the decisions that will determine your future.
From juvenile criminal defense to first degree murder charges, Jeremy Coe has defended those accused of a crime in every level of the Texas court system.
If you’re being arrested, here are the basic rights you can claim until your lawyer can be on the scene:
YOU HAVE THE RIGHT TO REMAIN SILENT
A police officer who is arresting you in the Palestine area should tell you this in reading your Miranda Rights. However in the heat of the moment, many people do not remain silent. It is in your best interest not to speak until you can receive counsel from your attorney.
YOU DO NOT HAVE TO BE SEARCHED
You are not supposed to be searched without a warrant, or your express permission. Officers can pat you down if they suspect you have a weapon, but you don’t have to agree to a search of your belongings.
YOU DO NOT HAVE TO CONFIRM CITIZENSHIP
Police in Palestine absolutely have the right to ask for your drivers license, but you are not required to answer questions about the status of your citizenship or if you are here legally except in circumstances of international travel, like at an airport.
DO NOT EVADE THE POLICE
Running from the police never works out well. Keep your hands where they can be seen and be cooperative.
If you believe your rights are being violated, observe and document every detail you can, from the officers name and badge number to their license plate number.
Do not lie or provide false documents.
DO NOT SIGN ANYTHING
Do not sign anything without your attorney’s thorough examination and counsel beforehand.
While these tips are helpful during an arrest, proving your innocence may be a bit more complicated.
